Partner visa

The MIA has now received advice from the Department of Home Affairs, which confirms its earlier advice that there are no legislative/policy changes anticipated in the Partner visa program in the near future.

While it’s yet to be confirmed that these changes will be implemented at a later date, this is good news for existing partner visa candidates who are eligible to submit an application without having a sponsorship approved first. Given the increase to application fees as of the next financial year, we would encourage any prospect applicants to get in touch with one of our migration consultants at the earliest convenience.

Skilled Visa

The Department of Home Affairs will now reduce the skilled independent invitation rounds for the remaining last quarter of 2018-19 program year to 100 invitations per month for the independent Skilled Stream and continue with 10 invitations per month for the Skilled-Regional Provisional (subclass 489) Family Sponsored stream.

With the new financial year, increased places for invitation will be very likely, along with a drop in the threshold of points for Expressions of Interest (currently 80). Applicants who are considering applying for skilled visas in the near future with lower points are encouraged to contact our office following July 2019 to assess their chances for invitations at this time.
